Back Patio and Trellis
The site is a crowded inner city backyard condition with parking lots on
either side and a 4 storey brick wall to the north. These external forces
acting on the site called for a design that would help to mitigate or make
less apparent the un-public qualities of such a space. A trellis and bench
structure shown in the photograph work mediate the scale
of the adjacent building. The resulting shadow play and the appearance of a
roof give the patio a more room like and intimate quality.
